Abstract

The current study aims to analyze the content of the fourth-grade science textbook in basic education in Libya based on the standards of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2015. The researcher used the descriptive method through content analysis. The study population and sample included all lessons of the fourth-grade student textbook in basic education in Libya, including both parts (first and second). The researcher used a content analysis tool according to the TIMSS-2015 standards prepared by "Ehsan Hameed Abdul" in his study (Abdul, 2016). The results of the current study showed that the domain "characteristics and classification of living organisms and their vital processes" ranked first with (92) occurrences and a percentage of (54.12%), followed by the domain "energy sources and their effects" with (106) occurrences and a percentage of (39.55%), and the domain "Earth's composition and its physical properties" with (58) occurrences and a percentage of (76.32%). The study also reached a set of recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity to review the content of science textbooks in Libya to include the standards of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS).
