Irrational thoughts and their relationship to self-concept among students of the Faculty of Education, Zintan

Abstract

The research aims to identify the spread extent of irrational thoughts among students of the Faculty of Education Zintan. Also, the extent of the correlation between irrational thoughts and self-concept. The research problem was identified in the following questions: What is the prevalence of irrational thoughts among the sample members? Is there a correlation between irrational thoughts and self-concept?  The descriptive correlative approach was used. The sample size was 257 male and female students from the Faculty of Education, Zintan University, Zintan. The Rihani scale of irrational thoughts and the Tennessee scale of self-concept were used. Statistical methods were used such as measures of central tendency, the scale of dispersion and correlation coefficient. The results of the study concluded that the irrational thoughts of the sample members were close and homogeneous, as well as the answers to the dimensions of the self-concept are close in the total degree. The existence of an inverse (partial) correlation between the dimensions of the concept of irrational thoughts and the dimensions of the self-concept, and ended. The study set a set of recommendations and suggestions. Abbreviations or acronyms must be preceded by the full term at the first use.
