The Role Of Omar Al-Mukhtar University in Spreading A Culture of Tolerance Among Students and Faculty Members

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the role of the university in spreading the concept and culture of Forgiveness among faculty members and students of Omar Al-Mukhtar University. A (30) faculty members and (60)students  at the Faculty of Arts, and after the process of distributing and collecting questionnaires, they were coded, and statistically processed using the statistical package for social sciences, the results of the study concluded: that the reality of the role of Omar Al-Mukhtar University in spreading the concept and culture of  Forgiveness  among its students and teaching staff came to a medium degree, The values ​​of intellectual and political Forgiveness  came to a lower degree than the average, and the results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the levels of Forgiveness  among students in terms of the interaction of gender and political affiliation variables, while the faculty members interaction did not show  significant differences according to the gender variables and political affiliation.  . There are statistically significant differences in the levels of Forgiveness of the study sample according to the variable (scientific qualification) among the faculty members, and the differences were significant in the variable of academic specialization among the study sample. Holding workshops and courses to develop a culture of  Forgiveness  among students and faculty members, reduce the phenomena of prejudice and intellectual isolation, develop awareness programs to activate constructive objective dialogue, consolidate a culture of Forgiveness  in curricula and study plans, and implement indicative programs to develop the values ​​of  Forgiveness  among students and faculty members, especially those who they hold extremist ideas, and spreading a culture of Forgiveness  leads to improved performance and quality in both scientific and practical production.
