Abstract

Natural radioactivity has gained significant global attention due to its implications for human safety. As wheat is a staple constituent of the human diet, monitoring its radionuclide levels is essential for assessing internal radiation exposure. This study utilizes NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectrometry to determine the activity concentrations of natural radionuclides in wheat samples. The findings aim to establish a baseline for radiological safety and ensure compliance with international health standards. The average activity concentrations of 226Ra, 238U, 232Th, and 40K were found to be 38.92 Bq/kg, 43.04 Bq/kg, 45.02 Bq/kg, and 221.25 Bq/kg, respectively. Additionally, evaluation of radiological risk factors, such as radium equivalent activity and internal and external hazard indices, showed that these levels are within or below globally recommended safety limits.
