Linguistic Research Methodologies and Schools

Abstract

This research aims to review the different methodologies and linguistic schools of linguistic research, within the framework of understanding the importance of language as a distinguishing feature of humans from other creatures. Since ancient times until the modern era, researchers have followed various approaches and methods in studying language, and boundaries have been defined for each of them to achieve desired results and reliable facts. Over the ages, scientists' efforts have accumulated to establish language laws and monitor the changes that occur in it over time. The methodologies varied between descriptive, historical, comparative, standard, and generative, depending on the objectives desired by each researcher. In the modern era, diverse linguistic schools emerged in terms of principles, ideas, time, and place. The research seeks to provide an overview of these different methodologies and review the prominent linguistic schools and their scholars. The research consists of an introduction, two chapters, and a conclusion, covering various topics related to linguistic methodologies and schools of linguistic analysis in the modern era. The research concludes with summarizing the main findings, a list of sources, and references.
