Abstract

This study examines the trade relations between the Kingdom of Ghana and the Arab Maghreb during the period from the 3rd to the 5th century AH (9th to 11th century AD), shedding light on the economic aspects of the relationship between the two sides. The study focuses on trade activities across the Sahara and their role in spreading Islam and its values throughout Africa. The historical period under investigation is considered one of the most important eras in the trade relations between the Kingdom of Ghana and the Arab Maghreb, and therefore, it represents a period of rich and diverse economic relations between the two parties. The research aims to answer some questions regarding the motives behind these trade relations, the role of trade routes and commercial centers in strengthening the economic ties between the two sides, the most important goods transported by caravans in both directions, and the results achieved through these journeys. The study follows a historical approach, narrating and analyzing events, and making comparisons using available sources and references. The research is divided into main axes that cover the importance of trade routes, the role of commercial centers in solidifying relations, the exchanged commodities between the two sides, and trade systems.
