The Barqa region (Cyrenaica) is a crucial link between the Islamic East and West. It played a significant role in the history of the Islamic state, as Arab conquerors started from there to spread Islam and Arab culture to the rest of Morocco. Despite its unique geographical position, Barqa never formed an independent state and remained administratively connected to Egypt, limiting its influence and development.
