Abstract

Al Jabal Al Akhdar )the Green Mountain( is considered one of the distinguished regions on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, whether in terms of its vegetation or its climate. Medail & Quezel (1999) identified ten biodiversity regions in the Mediterranean Basin, including Al Jabal Al Akhdar region. This distinction is attributed to its emergence as a protruding island-like formation within the Mediterranean Sea, making it more susceptible to the influence of low-pressure systems. Additionally, the factor of elevation diversity, from the coastal plain to the first and second plateaus and the southern slopes, further contributes to diverse climatic and vegetative environments. This study focuses on one climatic element, namely the rainfall system, in terms of its quantity and stability. Based on a set of climate indicators, the region has been divided into several distinct climatic zones in an effort to provide an accurate understanding of the agricultural potentials germane to each individualized district.
