The study was conducted at the Field Crops Department, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Damascus University during the 2023 season. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of various concentrations of amoxicillin (ranging from 0 to 1000 mg/L) on the germination and early growth phases of six lentil varieties (Idlib 1, Idlib 2, Idlib 3, Idlib 4, Idlib 5, Ebla 1) and two chickpea varieties (Ghab 3, Ghab 5). The experiment was set up using a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replicates for each variety and treatment. The results revealed that amoxicillin did not affect seed germination, even at high concentrations. However, the length of the root, shoot, and total length decreased progressively as the applied concentration increased for all the studied varieties. Root length was the most sensitive trait. Varieties exhibited different responses, with the Idlib 4 lentil and Ghab 3 chickpea varieties demonstrating the highest tolerance to varying levels of amoxicillin. These varieties experienced the lowest percentage decrease in root and total length and the highest absolute length compared with the other varieties studied.
