The Modern Theoretical Trends of Unemployment in the Arab World

Abstract

This research paper focuses on analyzing the modern theoretical and methodological trends in studying the social dimensions of unemployment and its various forms. This is done through reviewing theoretical trends related to unemployment, such as economic, social, demographic, and globalization perspectives. Then, it discusses recent variables associated with unemployment, such as poverty, education, gender, and age. The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the phenomenon of unemployment at both global and local levels, with a specific focus on the dimensions of unemployment in Libya, its causes, key characteristics, and resulting consequences. The main problem addressed by the research is the significance of unemployment as a long-term structural phenomenon faced by most countries worldwide, with a notable increase in unemployment rates in the context of globalization. Additionally, the problem is exacerbated by the weak link between economic growth and increasing unemployment rates, leading to the continuous exacerbation of unemployment, detachment from job opportunities, and deterioration of individuals' and youth's living standards. Therefore, exploring the social dimensions of unemployment is an important topic of interest for economic, social, and political circles, as well as international and local organizations.
