Abstract

The Seleucid Empire in the post-Antiochus III era was marked by Roman dominance. The empire's fate often depended on decisions made by the Roman Senate. The path to the Seleucid throne required recognition from Rome. Rome employed diverse policies, including divide-and-rule tactics and forceful annexation. They would make peace treaties with certain states while inciting conflict among others, using them as proxies in their own wars. This approach became common among later powers and is still seen in modern colonial states.
