This paper studies the mechanical wear behavior of a composite based on an aluminum-magnesium alloy reinforced with boron carbide grains. A mechanical wear tester was used to estimate the wear process of the composite under different loads and sliding speeds against a rotating cylinder of high hardness steel, which is estimated at 500 HV. It was found that the mechanical corrosion resistance of the composite is much greater than that of the aluminum-magnesium alloy, and the composite also showed a much higher value of the corrosion resistance to failure than the base alloy. The surfaces of the samples that fell under the influence of friction were studied by optical microscope.
