This study aimed to determine the admission characteristics and analysis of neonatal outcomes among neonatal admitted to intensive care units . Descriptive observational retrospective study was carried out from August 2022, to July 31, 2023 in the NICU at Albayda Medical Center (AMC). The proportion of neonatal case fatality (11.8 %). Male to female ratio was high , neonatal mortality was higher among males than females. regarding type of parity and delivery, length of stay in the NICU and maternal Illness were not found significantly different. Low birth weight and low 5 min APGAR score were predictors of neonatal death p value was (.<0.001). The commonest primary causes of death was prematurity (55.4%.). Hyaline-Membrane Disease/Respiratory Distress Syndrome (HMD/RDS) caused (48% )of all deaths followed by, HIE (23%) , pneumothorax (18%), hyperbiliurbinemia (14%), (13%) for ,sepsis and TTN , meconium aspiration accounted (7%). The study concluded that main causes of death were preventable and treatable. Hence, improving the quality of antenatal care is essential for early detection high risk newborns. Therefore, prevention of short gestation and low birth weight should be the highest public priority.
