Banks and Their Role in Financing Investment in Libya

This study aimed to identify the role that commercial banks play as one of the important financial institutions in Libya, and this study used the descriptive approach, as it is the appropriate approach for this type of study, which is based on describing the phenomenon, and the study relied on data and statistics issued by the Central Bank of Libya during The period from (1990- 2019). The results of the study concluded that loans for economic activities granted by commercial banks were stable, but witnessed a significant increase during the study period, and that real estate loans were high throughout the period under study, and that industrial loans witnessed a rise at the beginning of the period under study and stabilized in the middle of it, and stopped during the last years of the study period. The results also showed that social loans were low but increased at the end of the study period, and that advances and overdrafts granted by commercial banks were low but increased at the end of the study period, while the values of bills of exchange were fluctuating throughout the study period, and that the facilities granted by the banks The commercial banks were low in the past but rose a lot at the end of the study period, and that the total values of credit granted by commercial banks were low, and rose significantly at the end of the period referred to.
