This study aims to identify the factors that led to the accumulation of solid household waste, and to evaluate the role of both the citizen and the authorities responsible for dealing with household waste and how to dispose of it in the city of Jaghbub, in addition to knowing the most important methods used to dispose of it. Data for this study were collected by preparing a questionnaire that was distributed to a sample of the city’s residents in a random manner. Personal interviews were also conducted in this study with some officials in the public hygiene company, as well as taking some photographs. After that, SPSS was used to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that the lack of equipment and mechanisms for waste collection, the lack of environmental awareness among citizens, and the failure to use good methods for collecting household waste are among the most important reasons for waste accumulation in the city. As for the disposal of this waste, it is done by collecting it and burning it in an open dump, which is considered a traditional method and is not safe environmentally and health-wise.
