Abstract

The African continent has been an important region for achieving the goals of Iranian foreign policy since the sixties. After the independence of the countries of the Horn of Africa, Iran played by establishing diplomatic relations with countries in the African region. However, with the Islamic revolution in 1979, Iran-Africa relations declined as a result of the disturbances that followed the revolution, especially the Iraq-Iran war. It was accompanied by a stalemate until the beginning of the nineties, which witnessed the return of Iranian interest in the African continent. This interest reached the highest levels during the reign of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who placed the African continent on the top of his priorities. Through this, Iran aimed to achieve specific goals, which were planned in advance. These goals are political, economic, military, ideological and cultural goals. The study focuses on Iranian influence in the Horn of African region.
