Abstract

This study aimed to conduct a comparative analysis between hydroponic systems and traditional soil cultivation in terms of water-use efficiency and vegetative growth indices for tomato and pepper crops. Water requirements in soil were estimated using the Penman–Monteith (FAO-56) equation based on the Omu-ET model, whereas hydroponic system calculations were based on the actual uptake of the nutrient solution. The results demonstrated a statistically significant superiority (P = 0.005) of the hydroponic system in reducing water consumption by more than 75%, along with a marked improvement in biomass accumulation of the crops
